Inagural Post from the Main Instigator

Hello Big Pour fans! Dave here... the “Main Instigator” of the Steel City Big Pour. You'll be very happy to know that the Big Pour Committee has been diligently working on the 3rd annual Steel City Big Pour. To date, we've lined up 32 of the best craft brewers, 20 great local food establishments, and a host of local artists in an effort to create a seriously unforgettable event.

As you can see, the Big Pour artwork honors Woodstock and we truly aspire to live up to that original Woodstock tag line... “nobody attending will ever be the same.” That might seem like a lofty, or even ridiculous goal for a craft beer festival, but we disagree.

Our mission is to make the Steel City Big Pour one of America's best craft beer festivals. Notice that I did not say the biggest. Biggest is most definitely not our goal. Our goal is richness. We're striving to create the most interesting and engaging festival we can by combining the best brewers with the best food and the best live art for a Big Pour that's talked about across the country... maybe even across the world.

We think we're well on our way. I'm happy to report that we received a ton of amazingly positive feedback after the first two Big Pours in 2007 and 2008. It seems apparent that in the eyes of our patrons... the event did live up to our hopes. We also received a bunch of great suggestions on how to make the event even more successful in the future. We've taken all of them into consideration and appreciate folks taking the time to share them with us. So the Big Pour continues with the same great elements of the past along with some new tweaks for 2009 including five new breweries, a number of additional food partners and an array of artists who'll be sawing up logs, pouring molten glass and molding oozing concrete.

One common theme throughout the feedback we received, was a request for a permanent Big Pour web site available year round. Sometimes you get what you ask for and in this case we're happy to launch our Steel City Big Pour website with the launch of this Big Pour Blog. Thanks to our web designers at Lava New Media for helping make this possible.

We hope this Blog takes off... becoming an active communication vehicle for the Big Pour. We look forward to hearing from you so please... let us know what you think.

  1. This event is definitely the best beerfest type adventure of all time! My friends and I have had a spectacular time for the past two years here. I'll definitely be buying tickets come August 3rd. Is there any word if there will be a group discount a la years past?

  3. why is it that every time i try to click the "buy tickets" link, the Big Pour homepage just re-opens from the top? is it sold out already? if so, please let us know, rather than teasing us with the notion of attending.

    sincerely,

    -still hopeful
